How to Throw the Perfect Vintage Tea Party with Tea with Mrs. B
While we were visiting Washington DC, we were invited to afternoon tea at the whimsical tea room of Tea with Mrs. B . She prepared the perfect vintage tea party for us, and we picked up a few hosting tricks and tips from Mrs. B, who is such a delight and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to hosting and party etiquette. The tea room was the perfect atmosphere with colorful shabby chic furniture pieces and a dressing area with an Victorian armoire of fancy embellish dresses, long string pearls and chiffon tea hats with large bows. The party table was gorgeously decorated with a lace tablecloth, fresh flowers, vintage golden finds and of course dainty tea cups. It was the perfect vintage tea party.
Tea Party Table
Here are a few tips that I learned from Mrs. B on how to host the perfect vintage tea party or any tea party for that matter!
- Head to thrift stores, flea markets or estate sales to find tea cups and serving pieces like platters and cake plates. It is okay to mix and match your cups and saucers and is actually encourage!
- To create a shabby-chic look, use a lace table cloth, then place mirror trays and vintage gold frame mirrors as a base for your centerpiece.
- Fresh flowers create a pretty color palette with arrangements and centerpieces. Place little rose buds of twos or threes in vases and scatter around table.
- Use old, vintage books and stack for a story-time feel and to create varying heights while serving the food platters.
Tea Party Food
- Sweet and savory tea sandwiches fit perfectly in your fingers and are served on glass platters
- Fresh berries with a dollop of whip cream are served in tiny tea cups
- Mini sliders and fresh veggie skewers are tasty and are the perfect food to fill you up.
- Pastel-colored macaroons and sprinkle marshmellows are the right amount of sweets.
- Endless flavors of tea, served with sugar and milk is the best drink to keep the conversation going.
