We just got back from a fabulous trip to Florida’s northern-most island, Amelia Island, and Georgia’s southern most islands, which are the Golden Isles. That particular area is not as populated and many of the beaches are National Seashore and untouched. The beauty of the islands were so impressive–native wildlife, seashell beaches, driftwood, moss-covered trees. We saw so many sea life and there is quite a bit of history with ruins. Very cool. In addition to Amelia, we also took day trips to Jekyll and Cumberland Island. Our favorite part of Cumberland Island was the wild horses of course, and the dungeness which is a beautiful ruin.
One place we visited on Amelia is Fort Clinch–a 19th-century coastal fortification built for United States defense. It’s all original so it felt like going back in time!
Cumberland Island with it’s wild horses that weren’t quite wild! They said won’t feed the horses. They bite!
Jekyll Island had this neat sea turtle rescue center and a lot of history.
Thanks for the good times Amelia Island!
